Cricketer, Barnsley lad, Talk Radio Drive-time Host
"The Bar-Steward Sons of Val Doonican were the highlights of Saturday afternoon, swearily lampooning a genre that sometimes takes itself too seriously "
Jeff Robson, The Independent
(Review of The Bar-Steward Sons at Fairport's Cropredy Convention 2018)
" The Barnsley boys left the audience in stitches with exquisitely crafted parodies. Yorkshire's answer to Weird Al Yankovic."

THE LYRICS ARCHIVE
We have added all of the lyrics to all of the songs from our first ten studio albums from 2010 to 2019. Singalong with your favourites!
Scott Doonican is proud to play Tanglewood Guitars. Scott's trusty battered old 1995 Tanglewood TW55 (aptly dubbed 'The Workhorse') has seen him through 950+ shows between 2006-2019 with The Bar-Steward Sons of Val Doonican (and counting). The company's motto is "Trust Tanglewood", and Scott's main acoustic is a testament to that ethos.
He also owns a second TW55 which he bought as a back-up in case anything ever happened to 'The Workhorse' (named Workhorse 2, which he tends to use at home to write with, as it has had never needed to be gigged, thanks to it's older sister being made of such strong stuff!)
As of 2018, Scott is now proud to be an official endorsee of Tanglewood Guitars (he was endorsing them for years unofficially, anyway!), and is now the proud owner of the last ever Tanglewood TSR3 jumbo acoustic to ever be put into production. Designed by reknowned Swedish luthier Michael Sanden, this is one of Tanglewood's most celebrated professional instruments at the highest end of their wide range. It has been dubbed the 'New No. 3' and alongside his trusty TW55 he is putting it through its paces too, during his solo shows.
GOLD TONE INSTRUMENTS
He has been proud to play his trusty Gold Tone TS-250A Tenor Archtop Banjo during our live shows, since they kindly invited him to join their roster of world renowned artistes.
THE DOONICAN ARCHIVES
The Doonican Archives page, is a place where you can see how the band has evolved since 2006. It contains videos and recordings from all of the band's previous line-ups, and the current one too.
Take a trip down memory lane, and see what it was like when we were younger than we are now!
OTHER THINGS WE LIKE...
This is the part of the LINKS PAGE that transports you to other things we like. These are friends of the family, people we have collaborated with, or folk who do great things. Be sure to check them out.
The Sweetchunks Band - Our hairy brothers-from-other-mothers & Hampshire's finest steam-punk comedy band
Pocketful O' Nowt - South Yorkshire's comedy glam-rock pop-stars. Madder than a box of frogs, and long time partner's in crime. We love working with them on our annual Christmas Rock & Roll Circus Pantomime.
Terry Brookes - Barnsley's own Pop-Artist & many times Dooni-Collaborator. Terry's fab work speaks for itself!
Hobo Jones & The Junkyard Dogs - the world's self-proclaimed ugliest boy band, festival stalwarts and the originators of Skunk (Skiffle-Punk). Along with the Doonicans and The Sweetchunks Band, they are also one-third of the lesser spotted comedy super-group The Axis Of Mental. If they moved in next door, your lawn would die!
Eliza Carthy - Put simply, one of the nicest people we have ever worked with, and THE voice. Ladies & gents, we give you the undisputed Queen of modern British Folk Music.
Maartin Allcock - Maart was a multi-instrumentalist, a former member of both folk-rock leg-ends Fairport Convention and prog-rockers Jethro Tull, and a session musician with 300 albums under his belt. He also lent his experience to record production, and before his untimely passing, collaborated with us on a bunch of Christmas charity singles and other projects too. He will always be in our hearts and minds.
Oliver-Dawson Saxon - Graham Oliver has appeared on several Doonican releases in the past. He was a founding member of Barnsley heavy metal heroes SAXON, who played a significant part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement. Along with original Saxon bassman, Steve Dawson, they continue the legacy of one of rock's finest exports. These go up to 11!
Mike Harding - Scott has said many times before, that had it not been for singer, songwriter, comedian, author, poet, broadcaster and multi-instrumentalist, Mike Harding, there would be no Bar-Steward Sons of Val Doonican. A Lancashire Lad, The Godfather of alternative comedy, the voice of The Devil on 'The Devil Went Darn To Barnsley', and a folk-music curator of monumental proportions. His online Folk Show is also well worth a visit.
Levellers - The band that brought us onto the British Alternative Festival Circuit, the hosts of Beautiful Days festival, and bloody good friends to have too. Brighton's finest punk-folkies have been levelling the land since 1988.
Disc Factory - Quite simply the best CD replication and duplication company we have ever worked with. Their customer service is impeccable, and the quality of their products is great enough to make us look good!
