"Absolutely brilliant"
Darren Gough
Cricketer, Barnsley lad, Talk Radio Drive-time Host

"The Bar-Steward Sons of Val Doonican were the highlights of Saturday afternoon, lampooning a genre that sometimes takes itself too seriously "
Jeff Robson, The Independent
(Review of The Bar-Steward Sons at Fairport's Cropredy Convention 2018)

" The Barnsley boys left the audience in stitches with exquisitely crafted parodies. Yorkshire's answer to Weird Al Yankovic."
Heather Kincaid

We're not quite as interesting (or as popular) as Barack Obama or Stephen Fry, but we're on there, tweeting or X-ing (or whatever you call in nowadays) every now and then, anyway!

TANGLEWOOD GUITARS

Scott Doonican is proud to play Tanglewood GuitarsScott's trusty battered old 1995 Tanglewood TW55 (aptly dubbed 'The Workhorse') has seen him through 950+ shows between 2006-2019 with The Bar-Steward Sons of Val Doonican (and counting). The company's motto is "Trust Tanglewood", and Scott's main acoustic is a testament to that ethos.

He also owns a second TW55 which he bought as a back-up in case anything ever happened to 'The Workhorse' (named Workhorse 2, which he tends to use at home to write with, as it has had never needed to be gigged, thanks to it's older sister being made of such strong stuff!)

As of 2018, Scott is now proud to be an official endorsee of Tanglewood Guitars (he was endorsing them for years unofficially, anyway!), and is also the proud owner of the last ever Tanglewood TSR3 jumbo acoustic to ever be put into production. Designed by reknowned Swedish luthier Michael Sanden, this is one of Tanglewood's most celebrated professional instruments at the highest end of their wide range. It has been dubbed the 'New No. 3'.

ALL HAIL TO THE ALE... A PINT OF DOONICANS

EY ‘UP! LET’S SUP!

DOONICANS is a uniquely light, clean and refreshing SIBA Award Winning beer, brewed by Nuttycombe Brewery (in Wiveliscombe, Taunton, Somerset) to raise a glass to the UK’s hardest working comedy-folk band The Bar-Steward Sons of Val Doonican. The band's anarchic blend of music and comedy isn’t watered down and neither is this, Nuttycombe’s first collaboration beer. Brewed with Melon hops, it’s light, clean and refreshing, and like brothers Scott, Alan, J.R., Mo-Jo and Dave themselves, brimming with amped-up fruity flavour… floral, grassy and herbal with strawberry, apricot, and a hint of pineapple too!

So good it’ll leave you screaming out for an encore.

Nuttycombe's DOONICANS is the winner of the SIBA National Cask Speciality Light Beer Silver Award 2024, and the SIBA South West Region Gold Award in 2023.

OTHER THINGS WE LIKE...

This is the part of the LINKS PAGE that transports you to other things we like. These are friends of the family, people we have collaborated with, or folk who do great things. Be sure to check them out.

Maartin Allcock - Maart was a multi-instrumentalist, a former member of both folk-rock leg-ends Fairport Convention and prog-rockers Jethro Tull, and a session musician with 300 albums under his belt. He also lent his experience to record production, and before his untimely passing, collaborated with us on a bunch of Christmas charity singles and other projects too. He will always be in our hearts and minds.

Bak Trak Pedal - an ingenious bit of tech kit that Scott uses every night on stage. Invented by the electronic genius Keith G Jones, Scott can't thank him enough.
